Tollesbury Cruising Club

10 June 2005 - 15:18

Tollesbury Cruising Club was founded in 1970 by the Goldie and Waterhouse families, the builders of the Marina and by several local yachtsmen.

The Club was first situated on the top floor of the Marina Office and in December 1971 the Clubhouse as we know it today, was opened by Sir Alec Rose. During 1972 the Swimming Pool and Tennis Courts were completed.

The Club is managed by resident staff and during the high season, May to the beginning of October, is open 7 days a week. It is closed on Monday afternoon and all day Tuesday at other times. Meals are always available but it is advisable to book for the restaurant or Sunday Carvery.

Tollesbury Cruising Club is a proprietary club with Julian Goldie as the president, Louise Goldie the Secretary and a Committee heavily involved in the racing and cruising activities.

We welcome members with children and encourange family activities within the club.

The Cruising Club has an active programme of cruising events for both sailing yachts and motor boats, varying from weekend trips around the coast to longer cruises to the Continent. These are very informal events and offer a great chance to meet like minded folk along the way. For those interested in club racing, you will find a full list of events during the year for boats of all sizes and crews of varying experience!

We make a virtue of our tidal restrictions, modest though they actually are. Members tend to arrive early enough to meet the others and informally plan cruises while waiting for the tide to rise.

At the end of the weekend there is usually time to unwind in the club or have a relaxing swim before the journey home. This creates a real sense of togetherness for members with the opportunity to make new friends and share experiences in congenial surroundings.

Visiting yachts are most welcome and are cordially invited to take advantage of our club's hospitality. Marina berths can be reserved by phone and you may even like to book your table at the restaurant in advance. We often have visiting Clubs from local harbours and can cater for large groups given a little notice.
