Yacht Club Cala D’or sets hopes high for the island!

14 February 2005 - 17:38

It will be the most luxurious club in the Mediterranean The Yacht Club Cala d’Or, located at the Cala d’Or Marina, in Mallorca, sets the hopes high for the island, as with the opening of the luxurious club, after almost a year of construction and four of planning, it will encourage the broadening of the tourist season at the costal resort area

With the creation of the luxurious yacht club, yacht owners and sailors from Mallorca will soon have a new haven at which to recharge their batteries. The luxurious club will offer a member’s bar, and elegant bistro, a restaurant, a large heated pool, sauna, steam room and aromatherapy suite, fitness centre, an extensive library, satellite television and a fully equipped conference room for business meetings, conferences, annual meetings and other business functions.

Longer Tourist Season

“The Yacht Club Cala d’Or will encourage the tourism activity during low season at Cala d’Or, since we will be promoting the club for business use, such as planning meetings, incentives travel, courses and other business related needs that require an elegant and modern setting for their activities”, said Pam Op den Brouw, managing director of the Yacht Club Cala d’Or.

“It will certainly be a big challenge, since no one has done anything like it in Cala d’Or”, she added. “Although, a four star hotel and several restaurants in the area have already confirmed that they will open sooner and close later this year to accommodate our members and guests. This is very important to us”, she added. “We hope other companies will follow suit and join us in this effort to make Cala d’Or a year long destination”, she said. “At the same time, the club will highlight all the cultural and natural features of Mallorca in our promotional campaigns abroad, such as the historical sites, the museums, the gastronomic route, the golf courses and cultural entertainment. The Yacht Club Cala d’Or sponsors the travelling photographic exhibition “Mallorca Enchanted”, which is currently touring the UK until 2007.

The idea

The Yacht Club Cala d’Or concept has received an enthusiastic welcome among boat owners who would like to profit more from their boat, but have not been able to do so because nothing was open during the winter. “This very need is the main catalyst behind the Yacht Club Cala d’Or”, said Paul Gilbert, the club’s chief executive. “Christine, my wife, encouraged me to bring this idea to life, with Pam’s help, whose nautical experience and enthusiasm are key to the project”, he added.

Construction work for the luxurious complex started last March and continued at an accelerated pace to accommodate deadlines. The club will open to members and guests on April 15. “The furniture is being delivered and the team is already working on the final touches”, said Pam. At the same time, the Bistrot and Ca La Vista Restaurant teams will travel to France on February 10 for a three-week course on quality control at the “Centre de Formation d’Alain Ducasse”, whose Paris restaurant has two Michelin stars.

“We will be organising several activities at the national and international level to promote the Yacht Club Cala d’Or in the following months”, said the managing director. “It is worth our effort to promote it, since we are the first to offer a luxury venue for boat owners, local residents, national and international second home owners and all of those who seek an elegant setting”, added.

International Press

Editors and writers of the main nautical publications and section chiefs of the main European newspapers have been invited to attend the press preview on April 4 and 5, so they can visit Mallorca, the Yacht Club’s facilities and experience the gastronomic specialities of Restaurant Ca La Vista and the Bistro. “There was a lot of coverage when we announced the creation of the club about a year ago”, said Pam, “and many of those publications approached me during the Southampton, London and Düsseldorf boat shows, so we decided to invite them to Cala d’Or to let them experience the club” she added.
